Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for The Infinita 18 Years Old by Glenmorangie

Tasting

Appearance

This Highland single malt displays a deep amber hue, reflecting its 18 years of maturation in oak casks and its finish in Oloroso Sherry casks.

Nose

The nose reveals remarkable complexity, with notes of creamy vanilla alongside fresh citrus and honey. Aromas of walnut, dates, and caramel mingle harmoniously with delicate floral touches of jasmine, daffodil, and geranium. Hints of orange zest also emerge, along with a very light campfire smoke that adds depth.

Palate

The texture is smooth, oily, and silky. Autumnal flavors of dates and figs unfold with elegance, accompanied by a subtle smoky touch. Notes of walnut and sweet spices meet a pleasant freshness carried by grapefruit and orange aromas. The long, lingering finish offers a fine harmony between the sweetness of dried fruits and the signature dryness of Oloroso Sherry.

Food pairings and tasting moments

Rich and complex, this whisky is best enjoyed neat, at room temperature, to fully appreciate its many facets. It will pair beautifully with dried-fruit desserts or aged cheeses.

Mixology

Given its exceptional character and complexity after 18 years of maturation, we recommend enjoying this single malt without artifice to savor the full breadth of its aromatic richness.

A Highland Scotch whisky with rare complexity

Glenmorangie: Scottish excellence

A leading name among Scotch whisky producers, the Glenmorangie distillery traces its origins back to 1943, under the leadership of William Matheson and his wife Anne, driven by the ambition to craft exceptional spirits. Guided by a constant pursuit of excellence, Glenmorangie stands out both for its use of high-quality barley and for its expertise in wood and its work in extra maturation, a hallmark of this estate’s unique savoir-faire. A global reference for innovation, the House was owned by the Macdonald & Muir family for nearly 90 years before joining the French LVMH group in 2004. Its distinctive character lies in its stills, the tallest in Scotland at over 5 meters, producing an exceptionally light, fruity distillate. A pioneer in noble wine cask finishes, Glenmorangie produces 6 million liters per year, drawing its water from the Tarlogie spring. Under the direction of Dr Bill Lumsden, an expert in distillation and maturation, the house upholds its excellence and its unrivaled international reputation.

The Infinita 18 Years Old: a unique double-maturation process

The Infinita 18 Years Old stands out for its two-stage maturation process. This rare whisky first ages for 15 years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, developing its signature fruity and vanilla notes. Around 30% of the volume is then transferred into Spanish Oloroso Sherry casks for an additional 3 years, bringing richness and depth to the spirit. The two liquids are ultimately married once they have reached a total age of 18 years, creating a Scotch whisky single malt of remarkable complexity. This finishing technique, in which Glenmorangie excels as a pioneer, achieves a perfect balance between the sweetness of dried fruits and the elegant dryness of Oloroso Sherry.
