Tasting Advice for the 32-Year-Old G&M 1989 from Highland Park

Tasting

Appearance
Dark gold hue.

Nose
The nose exudes fragrances of brown sugar and black cherry, associated with sweet spices, orange zest, and pressed apples. Upon aeration, a subtle touch of nutmeg and delicate smoke completes this complex nose.

Palate
Delicious, the attack reveals tasty aromas of fruit cake and dried tobacco. Butter caramel then takes over, followed by flavors of ripe red apple and a menthol note for a final freshness.

Highland Park: a must-visit distillery

Highland Park, located on the Orkney Islands, draws its specificity from its unique terroir and artisanal methods. The distillery stands out for the use of peat from local heather and a know-how passed down from generations. True to its origins, it embodies both history and innovation in each bottle.

A unique whisky enhancing the peaty character of whisky.

This Scottish whisky distilled in 1989 first aged in Refill Sherry Butt barrels, then benefited from a finish in Côte-Rôtie barrels, an emblematic appellation of the Rhône Valley. This second passage brings singular aromas and exceptional aromatic depth.

Part of the Connoisseur’s Choice Upper range from Gordon & MacPhail, this Highland Park is an example of balance and sophistication. Bottled at 51.9%, it is aimed at enlightened enthusiasts in search of a unique sensory experience, where the influences of the Highlands and the great wines of the Rhône Valley meet.

Gordon & MacPhail: the excellence of independent bottlers

Founded in 1895 in Elgin, in Speyside, Gordon & MacPhail is one of the oldest independent Scottish bottlers. Originally a delicatessen, the company specialized in the selection and maturation of single malt whiskies rare. Its role is to buy barrels from distilleries, age them in their own cellars, and then bottle them under their label. This approach offers unique versions of whiskies often absent from official ranges.

Thanks to its expertise, Gordon & MacPhail is renowned for its old single malts, among the rarest in the world. In 1993, it acquired the Benromach distillery, adding a producer dimension to its activity.
