Suntory Whisky, a remarkable distillery

In 1899, Shinjiro Torii opened a small family shop in Osaka to develop Western-style wines and liqueurs in Japan, despite a mixed reception. He created his own wine and launched the Akadama Port Wine in 1907, which has now become the Akadama Sweet Wine. Following this success, he founded the Yamazaki distillery in 1923, the first to produce malt whisky in Japan, with references such as Suntory Shirofuda and Yamazaki. The Suntory group continues its international expansion by acquiring Château Lagrange in 1983, the Orangina Schweppes group in 2009, Ribena and Lucozade in 2013, and Beam in 2014.
