Description

The richness and complexity of a Corsican red wine

The estate

Father and son winegrowers, for the Leccias, wine is undeniably a family affair. Son, grandson and great-grandson of winegrowers, Yves Leccia naturally followed this path, setting up his own estate with his partner Sandrine in 2005. Located in the north of Corsica, in the heart of the Patrimonio appellation, the estate now oversees 15 hectares of vines on the sublime plots of E Croce and Partinelone. Freshness, minerality and purity of fruit are the hallmarks of this passionate winemaker's cuvées, an invitation to discover the finest jewels of the Patrimonio appellation.

The vineyard

E Croce Rouge 2019 is a Patrimonio wine from a vineyard ideally located on hillsides facing the Mediterranean Sea. The schist and limestone soil and the Mediterranean climate that influences it provide ideal conditions for growing local grape varieties. Sustainable, environmentally-friendly viticultural practices are at the heart of the estate's philosophy, and the vineyard is farmed organically.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and crushed, then placed in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, generally between 25 and 30°C, for a period of 12 to 15 days. After devatting, the grapes are pressed, and the free-run juice and press juice are blended. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for 15 to 20 days. Finally, the wine is aged for 12 months in stainless steel vats.
