Alphonse Mellot is one of those passionate winemakers who didn't hesitate to modernize the historical and prestigious vineyards planted by the Cluny monks at the end of the 1980's. This parcel, known by the name "Les Pénitents," is 5 hectares and is today certified as biodynamic. It is planted along the road that leads to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle and is strongly associated with these powerful symbols. The cuvee Les Penitents 2013 (IGP Côtes de la Charité) from the house of Alphonse Mellot is a 100% Pinot Noir that is crisp and expressive. The profound ruby robe has violet undertones. On the nose there are notes of red fruit that deliver an agreeable sensation. The palate has a sensual frame and great finesse that produces a beautiful red fruit retro-olfactory sensation. A wine with a lovely long finish, it needs a bit of time. As they say here, an easy penance.
