Description
The fruity framework and finesse of a Margaux Second Wine
The estate
Château d'Issan has been a famous Bordeaux cru since the 12th century. This 1855 Margaux Grand Cru Classé is now back in the limelight thanks to a partnership between the Lorenzetti family, who also own vineyards in Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, and the Cruse family.
The vineyard
Château d'Issan 2022 is a Margaux wine from a 59-hectare vineyard. Spread across three appellations, this terroir is planted on gravelly hilltops and alluvial hills typical of the appellation.
The wine
Blason d’Issan is Château d’Issan’s Second Wine.
The vintage
Flowering began on 16 May and veraison started slightly early on 6 July. Despite high temperatures and low rainfall over the summer, the clay soil is ideal for conserving moisture and avoiding water stress. Maintaining water resources in the soil enabled the vines to withstand the extreme temperatures and keep the grapes fresh until they reached optimum ripeness. For the third time in the estate's history, after 2003 and 2011, the harvest took place exclusively in September.
Winemaking and ageing
Extremely fine vinification in state-of-the-art facilities comprising 16 stainless steel micro-tanks. The wine was in barrels (35% of which new).
Blend
Merlot (55%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (44%)
Petit Verdot (1%).
