Description
An exceptional Argentine Malbec from the heights of Mendoza
The estate
Created in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena, Bodega Catena Zapata spans six historic vineyards in Mendoza. A family-owned estate now run by Nicolás Catena Zapata and his daughter Laura Catena, the bodega revolutionized Argentine viticulture by reintroducing Malbec and developing high-altitude viticulture. A pioneer in exporting fine Argentine wines, it was crowned "World's Best Vineyards" in 2023.
The vineyard
The Adrianna Vineyard is located in the Gualtallary district, in the Uco Valley in Mendoza in Argentine. The Fortuna Terrae plot covers 5 hectares at 1,366 meters above sea level. The alluvial-origin soils feature a deep loam composition studded with white stones overlaid with limestone, giving the terroir its unique characteristics.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was exceptionally good for the quality of Mendoza wines, despite unpredictable weather conditions. The availability of glacial water helped keep the vineyards healthy, and a cool autumn allowed for slow and complete ripening of the grapes, ensuring remarkable concentration and balance in the vintage.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking of the Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae Malbec 2022 begins with a cold maceration of 3 to 7 days at below 10°C, with 60 to 80% whole clusters. Fermentation lasts 10 to 19 days, followed by a total maceration of about 8 to 12 days. Aging takes place over 14 to 18 months in 500-liter French oak barrels aged 2 to 5 years and in 2,200-liter foudres over 5 years old.
Grape variety
The Adrianna Vineyard Fortuna Terrae Malbec 2022 from Catena Zapata is 100% Malbec.
