The refinement of a great high-altitude Argentine Malbec crafted by Bodega Catena Zapata
The estate
Founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, Bodega Catena Zapata is a true benchmark of Argentine winemaking. Located in the Mendoza region, this historic estate is now run by the fourth generation, represented by Dr Laura Catena. As pioneers in the exploration of high-altitude terroirs, the family has restored the prestige of the country's emblematic grape variety. Thanks to the in-depth research of the Catena Institute of Wine, the brand now combines family tradition, regenerative viticulture and a scientific approach to produce wines of exceptional international renown.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the Fortuna Terrae plot, located within the prestigious Adrianna vineyard in the Gualtallary sub-region of Tupungato, in the province of Mendoza. Rising to 1,366 metres above sea level, this exceptional terroir is characterised by deep silty soils. The site is farmed with an environmentally friendly approach that fosters rich biodiversity, where native grasses, beneficial insects and local wildlife coexist.
Winemaking and ageing
Under the supervision of winemaker Alejandro Vigil, the making of the "Adrianna Fortuna Terrae" Malbec 2023 begins with a cold maceration lasting three to seven days. The vinification includes a high proportion of whole bunches, accounting for 60 to 80% of the harvest. Finally, the wine undergoes careful ageing for 14 to 18 months, divided between concrete vats and large 2,200-litre foudres, in order to preserve the full purity of the fruit.
Grape variety
This cuvée is made from 100% Malbec.
