Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

A sleek, firmly structured red marked by aromas of rose hip, red licorice, macerated cherry and clove. Tightly wound and less expressive than many other ’19s at this stage, yet hangs together nicely. Distinctive. Best from 2025 through 2040. 175 cases imported.

The estate

Founded in 1731, the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and most prestigious wine estates in Burgundy. This family estate is renowned for its expertise and commitment to quality. Located in Beaune, this house owns plots in the best crus of the region, cultivating wines that perfectly express the Burgundian terroir.

The vineyard

Patience has been the key in building up the vineyard of Bouchard Père et Fils over the years, which now extends over 130 hectares of vines. Bringing together prestigious appellations with exceptional plots, the Bouchard Père & Fils vineyard constitutes a unique wine heritage in Burgundy.

Vinification and ageing

The harvest is manual, with a meticulous sorting of each bunch. Fermentation in small containers and gentle pressing ensure careful vinification. Maceration lasts 15 to 20 days. The wine is aged for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 30 to 40% of which are new.
