Description
An elegant and aromatic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
The name of Château Balestard la Tonnelle has a dual origin. « Balestard » being the name of a canon of the chapter of Saint-Émilion and « la Tonnelle » an ancient stone watchtower dating from the 15th century, still present in the heart of the vineyard. This Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion has been owned by the Capdemourlin family since 1923. Château Balestard la Tonnelle is mentioned in a poem by François Villon, which can be found on the label.
The vineyard
Located on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, Château Balestard la Tonnelle overlooks a 10.50-hectare vineyard situated atop a hill on the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking in conical stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in barrels. This Saint-Émilion wine benefits from an aging period of 15 to 18 months (50% new barrels and 50% once-used barrels).
Blend
Château Balestard la Tonnelle 2020 is made from a blend of merlot (75%), cabernet sauvignon (10%) and cabernet franc (15%).
