Description
A Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion combining power and finesse
The estate
Founded in the 17th century, Château Canon La Gaffelière is a jewel of Bordeaux, located south of Saint-Émilion. Since 1971, it has belonged to the von Neipperg family, whose winemaking history spans 800 years, with Stephan von Neipperg at its helm since the 1980s.
The vineyard
Lying at the foot of the southern slope of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard of Château Canon La Gaffelière enjoys an exceptional terroir of clay-limestone and clay-sand soils. This geological diversity, combined with optimal sun exposure, gives the wines their distinctive character.
Winemaking and ageing
Vinification takes place in wooden vats, with extraction by pneumatic punching down. Maceration lasts 30 days, ensuring optimal extraction of aromas and tannins. The wine is then aged on fine lees, 75% in barrels (30% of them new) and 25% in wooden and concrete vats.
Blend
The 2024 Château Canon La Gaffelière is a blend of 43% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Franc and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon.
