The elegance of a great Haut-Médoc wine with a sunny character
The estate
Located in the Bordeaux region, the Château Cantemerle dates back to 1540. This historic estate stands out for a unique distinction: it is the only property to have been added to the original 1855 classification as a Fifth Growth. The SMA group is the current owner of the estate, now managed by Laure Canu.
The vineyard
Located in the Haut-Médoc appellation, south of the Médoc peninsula near the villages of Macau and Ludon, the terroir is distinguished by its deep gravel soils composed of Quaternary silica. The vines are carefully managed using double Guyot pruning, leaf thinning, and manual crop thinning. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand with rigorous selective sorting directly in the vineyard.
The vintage
The year 2025 was a great sunny vintage. The growing cycle began with bud break on March 24, followed by mid-flowering on May 23 and fruit set on June 2. Mid-veraison took place on July 28, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness for a harvest that ran from September 4 to 20.
Winemaking and aging
The year 2025 marks an important milestone with the inauguration of new facilities and a new label. The number of vats has been tripled, allowing for highly precise parcel-by-parcel vinification, with grapes handled with the utmost care. The wine then undergoes traditional aging for 18 months in oak barrels.
Grape varieties
71% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot, 7% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.
