Description

A fresh and expressive Pessac-Léognan white wine

The estate

The Château Carbonnieux was founded in the 13th century by the Benedictines of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. Château Carbonnieux is located within the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is among the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. In 1956, Marc Perrin acquired the château, which became a classified growth in 1959 for both red and white wines.

The vineyard

The Château Carbonnieux 2023 is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a vineyard spread over a mosaic of terroirs ranging from clay-limestone soils to günzian gravels. 45 hectares are dedicated to white grape varieties. The vines are on average 30 years old. The entire vineyard is certified High Environmental Value level 3. In 2021, 25% of the vineyard is managed organically.

The vintage

A year that started with classic conditions gave way to a spring whose warmth favoured a favourable development of the vineyard and a beautiful flowering. The alternation of humid days with mild nights at the beginning of summer led to significant sanitary pressure, controlled by the rigour of the teams. If the beginning of August is marked by average rainfall and moderate temperatures, from mid-August to early September, heatwave temperatures were recorded, promoting optimal ripening of the berries.

Vinification and ageing

Harvested by hand, the berries undergo a double selection in the vineyard and on the sorting table, before a gentle pneumatic pressing and cold settling. The 12-day fermentation is carried out in barrels or vats, followed by an ageing in barrels (including 25% new wood) for about 10 months with stirring.

Blend

This Château Carbonnieux white 2023 is the result of a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (65%) and Sémillon (35%).
