The precision and aromatic purity of a Sauternes
The estate
The d'Arche family has been rooted in the Bordeaux region since 1611, beginning its winemaking journey with Etienne d'Arche, regent doctor at the University of Bordeaux. His great-grandson, François d'Arche, Counsellor to the King, acquired the Braneyre estate in 1733 and renamed it Château d'Arche. Despite the upheavals of history, most notably the French Revolution, the estate endured. In 1855, it was classified as a Second Growth among the white wines of the Gironde. Under the leadership of Armand Bastit-Saint-Martin, mayor of Sauternes, the estate was reunified in 1925. In 1996, a new chapter began with the acquisition of Château d'Arche, guided by a vision focused on viticultural excellence and respect for the environment.
The vineyard
With an average age of 65 years, the vines of Château d'Arche thrive on an exceptional Sauternes terroir, characterised by gravel ridges over clay subsoils, with sand at the foot of the slopes. This unique terroir, combined with a distinctive microclimate, encourages the development of Botrytis cinerea, essential to the making of great Sauternes.
The vintage
2024 stood out for its cool, damp conditions, with a typical oceanic climate and regular rainfall. The relatively cool summer allowed the white grapes to ripen optimally. Autumn conditions were particularly favourable to the development of Botrytis cinerea, making for an ideal harvest between 21 September and 30 October, with four successive passes through the vineyard to select berries at perfect ripeness.
Winemaking and ageing
Fully vinified in new barrels, allowing for a slow, controlled fermentation. Ageing also takes place in new oak barrels, bringing complexity and finesse to the wine while preserving the fruit and freshness characteristic of the vintage.
Grape variety
100% Sémillon.
