Description
A balanced and silky Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion
The estate
Classified as a Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion in 2012, the Château de Ferrand is an estate with a unique charm, overlooking the Dordogne Valley. Built in 1702, Château de Ferrand showcases superb classical-style architecture.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château de Ferrand covers 42 hectares, 32 of which are planted in a single block. The vines are located at the edge of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, on a ledge overlooking the curve of the Dordogne Valley. This location provides excellent runoff drainage, which, combined with ideal altitude and exposure, gives rise to great Red wines of Saint-Émilion.
The vintage
An unusually mild and dry winter was followed by an early, rapid, and uniform bud break in spring. During April and May, unusual coolness and significant rainfall slowed early vine development, which resumed a normal pace in May, culminating in a balanced flowering. The particularly hot and dry summer did not affect the vine, thanks to the château’s well-draining clay-limestone soils, ensuring sufficient water reserves. Veraison was observed around July 13th. Rainy episodes at the end of August cooled the soils and allowed the vine to complete its cycle. The beginning of September was marked by a significant heat wave, without consequences for the estate due to its draining terroir. Harvest began on September 14th, and was early and of very high quality.
Blend
Merlot (74%), Cabernet Franc (25%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%).
