Vinum

Fine roasted notes, a hint of coconut over a mix of dark and red berries—blackberry, cherry, plum—herbs; round attack, incredibly crisp fruit, very fine-grained tannins, showing tension, balance, freshness and length, finishing on blood orange. A highly elegant Château de Ferrand that will deliver pleasure quickly. Built for mid-term ageing.

Decanter

Vibrant colour to the rim, bright purple. Aromas of blackcurrants and strawberries, both dark fruit and lively red fruits. Quite high acidity puts the tangy fruit front and centre - it’s a little sharp at first and then changes to quite mineral and chalky. It has bite though and a lingering spiced liquorice, mint, aniseed and clove accent. Feels a little tense on the finish, just tightening up and constricting some of the enjoyment - more from oak I think which will settle. Well built though, this has fruit, acidity, sapped tannins and a long finish. A success in 2024. Certified organic.

Jancis Robinson

James Lawther MW

75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Appealing fruit with firm but ripe tannins enrobed by the fruit. Fresh with a chalky texture. Saline note on the finish. A little austere but has a sense of place. (JL)

Fresh, crisp, red fruits surrounded by espresso and chocolate create a bright, medium-bodied, energetic wine with a lot of vibrancy, spearmint, and red pit fruits on the palate and in the finish. Fans of de Ferrand should note that 2024 is the first vintage to sport the estate’s new, updated label. Drink from 2027-2038. 90-92 pts

Le Figaro Vin

A nose of great precision, like the fine stroke of an ink drawing, with blackcurrant, blackcurrant leaf, and succulent lifted notes of pine forest, aromatic herbs, and flowers. The palate reveals red fruit, still a little reserved, delicately laced in silky tannins like a gauze veil. The whole is clean and compact. The oak still needs time to integrate, but the juicy finish suggests a beautiful harmony to come.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château de Ferrand 2024

Tasting

Nose
The aromatic bouquet stands out for its beautiful freshness and expressive notes of fresh fruit, particularly black and red berries that bring a delicious and lively dimension.

Palate
The attack is lively and crisp, giving way to a mid-palate of pleasant roundness. The structure is balanced, carried by delicate tannins and a light texture. The finish, persistent and spicy, harmoniously completes this tasting.

Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs perfectly with creamy white meats and mushrooms, as well as grilled or roasted red meat dishes. It also goes well with mature cheeses.

A Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, ample and with a beautiful aromatic expression

The property
Founded in 1702 by Elie de Bétoulaud, the Château de Ferrand is an emblematic vineyard of Saint-Émilion, classified Grand Cru Classé in 2012. Acquired in 1977 by Baron Bich, founder of the famous BIC brand, it is now managed by his daughter Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe. This Bordeaux gem stands out for its historic caves and a recent architectural restructuring aimed at enhancing the elegance and freshness characteristic of its wines.

The vineyard
Located on the heights of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard benefits from meticulous parcel management that allows for the best exploitation of the diversity of soils. This mosaic of terroirs, mainly composed of clay-limestone, gives the wines their distinctive character and aging potential. The privileged exposure of the plots and the rigor in the management of the vineyard contribute to the authentic expression of this exceptional terroir.

The wine

Representing a turning point for the estate with its first certification in organic farming, 2024 also highlights a new label. Entirely made with a Bic pen, this illustration combines liveliness, poetry, modernity, and classicism.

The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by contrasting climatic conditions that required rigorous and reactive management of the vineyard. These meteorological challenges were however overcome thanks to precise work in the vines, allowing for the harvest of grapes of optimal quality despite the climatic hazards.

Vinification and aging
Numerous rigorous selections are made before a gentle fermentation and a soft extraction allowing for silky tannins and a balanced structure. The aging, carried out with respect for the terroir and the vintage, aims to enhance the natural elegance of the wine while giving it additional complexity.

Blend
Merlot (75%) and Cabernet Franc (25%).
