Vinum

Even after maturation, a particularly beguiling aroma of berries and spices; on the palate, as round as a sphere, juicy, with good length; especially harmonious and seductive; will already be enjoyable when young and can still age.

Decanter

Smells like cassis liqueur on the nose. This is full and bold but with excellent, mouthwatering acidity—lots of energy here. A lifted style but still with that core of deep, dense, chewy fruit. Really a winning combination of all the elements, with the oak giving structure, weight, and texture. Sculpted fruit and well-handled acidity. Still has some spiky edges to the fruit, hints of cedar and clove giving a piquancy, but this is lovely stuff.

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, plums, cloves and iodine. Medium-bodied with sinewy tannins. Layered and velvety with a supple, fruity character. Juicy finish. Drink from 2024.

Julia Harding MW

65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot. Darkest crimson. Dark-fruited with just a hint of char on the nose. Firmly tannic, dry in texture, but I think this is youth rather than imbalance. Just a bit lean on the finish. (JH)

Aromatically, with little effort you find chocolate, flowers, espresso, smoke, black cherries and plums. The wine is fresh, vibrant, soft, lush, chocolatey and packed with ripe berries. Give it a few years in the cellar and it will really start to shine. Drink from 2024-2038.

Falstaff

Falstaff

Dark ruby garnet, purple reflections, delicate edge brightening. A hint of precious wood, dark berry fruit, ripe plums, candied orange zest. Medium complexity, red cherries, vivid, somewhat demanding tannins, appears slender with red berry on the somewhat brittle finish.

Blackcurrants, smoked earth, cedarwood, and foresty, herbal notes all emerge from the 2019 Château De Fieuzal, a medium-bodied, elegant, balanced 2019. It opens up nicely with time in the glass, has a classic, focused, structured style, good (though maybe not great) concentration, and outstanding length. It's a beautiful, elegant, classic wine from this estate that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for 15+. It's well worth seeking out.

Weinwisser

Opaque purple with a black core and a violet rim. Multi-layered bouquet of blackcurrants, Tasmanian mountain pepper and Brazilian tobacco. On the second nose, cardamom and red plums. On the palate, powerful, with a tight-knit tannic framework, vibrant backbone and a finely sandy extract. Focused finish with wild cherries, juniper and dark minerality, with a delicate astringency. The signature of the new consultant Thomas Duclos is clearly noticeable. Not as much of a charmer as the 2015, it deliberately opts for a classic style—keep it up!

Kunz barrel sample 2020: off-dry, dense, dark bouquet; blackberry, blackcurrant, smoke, freshly roasted coffee beans, licorice. Elegant, finely knit, fragrant palate with fine, powerful fruit, plenty of fine tannins, dense, creamy structure, powerful aromatics, and a long, full finish.

Fine‑herb, dense, dark bouquet of blackberry, cassis, smoke, freshly roasted coffee beans, licorice. Elegant, tightly knit and fragrant palate with precise, powerful fruit, plenty of fine tannins, a dense, creamy structure, powerful aromatics, and a long, full finish. 18/20 2025 - 2048

Love the soft grilled cedar notes on the opening beats, coming in waves and drawing you in. Sweet damson and blackberry on the palate, elegant, pared back, fresh acidities, touches of earth, black truffle, liquorice and cocoa bean, gentle but compelling. Subtle persistency, the pulses of flavour keep on coming without overwhelming the palate. Excellent stuff from the Quinn family and director Stephen Carrier. Consultant Thomas Duclos.

The Wine Independent

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2019 de Fieuzal has a deep garnet-purple color. It bursts with ripe notes of prunes, fruitcake, and Chinese five spice, plus touches of dried lavender and black olives. The medium-bodied palate coats the mouth with flavors of spicy blackberry preserves, framed by firm, chewy tannins, finishing earthy.

Bettane+Desseauve

This wine is at its best: a lovely deep colour, a perfectly balanced body, more pronounced fruit with notes of plum and black berries, a well-rounded tannin judiciously extracted, and excellent ageing potential. Very fair price.

Right from the start, Fieuzal’s bouquet stands out for its freshness, fruit-driven expression and floral notes. Both the freshness and the fruit expression are present from the very attack as well. The wine shows temperament, a juicy structure and fine tannins, gradually gaining breadth to assert itself calmly on the finish. They are in line with the acid structure. Thus, these two elements bring freshness, breadth and potential. They also underscore just how much Fieuzal belongs among the greats of Pessac-Léognan!

The nose is elegant, delicate, and offers subtlety, a lovely silky side, pedigree, and a fine grain. It reveals notes of pulpy/fresh blackberry, raspberry, and, more slightly, crunchy small berries, combined with touches of iris, fresh lily, redcurrant, mocha, as well as discreet (elegant) varietal hints, subtle touches of sweet spices, and toasted nuances. A subtle/very discreet hint of almost fresh saffron (in its floral facet). The palate is fruity, balanced, beautifully elegant, all about finesse/control, and offers brightness, lovely definition, glycerol, roundness, a certain power, as well as a fine, well-managed richness. Precision in this wine. Creaminess, but with finesse, without any opulent/heavy side. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, violet, juicy/fleshy redcurrant and, more slightly, lily and iris, combined with touches of fleshy red berries, toasted notes, as well as fine hints of tonka bean, cardamom, saline minerality, mocha, and a subtle touch of grilled. The tannins are all elegance and finesse. Good length.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Dark, intense, purple color. Very aromatic nose with pure, ripe fruit. Delicate on the attack, particularly aromatic mid-palate, flavorful with a supple body; the wine caresses the palate, friendly, juicy, and subtly structured on the finish. A profile that evokes Pessac more than Léognan.

Wine Enthusiast

Roger Voss

The succulence of this wine is impressively palpable. It adds black currant fruits to spice, while keeping solid tannins in the background. This fine combination means it will certainly age well. Drink from 2026.

Description

The elegance of a vivacious and silky Pessac-Léognan

The estate
Since 2001, Château de Fieuzal has belonged to an Irish couple passionate about French wine, who strive to perpetuate the unique character of the estate, while preserving the signature style and authenticity of Fieuzal wines. The vineyard is planted in a terroir typical of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, the ideal environment for the cultivation of the main Bordeaux grape varieties.

The vineyard
This Graves Classified Growth reigns over an exceptional vineyard with vines aged 30 years on average, established on a terroir of fine soils covered with gravel.

The vintage
In the year 2019, the winter was mild, resulting in an early bud burst. An English-style spring was followed by a hot summer and an "Indian summer" before autumn. All these conditions have made it possible to perfect the quality of Château de Fieuzal’s wines.

The blend
Cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot and merlot.

Tasting
A superbly successful vintage, the Château de Fieuzal 2019 presents a complex and precise aromatic expression. On the palate, the vintage seduces with its energy, delicate tannins and mouth-coating texture on the palate. Finesse, elegance and precision are the key words to describe this beautiful 2019 vintage from the property.
