Wine Spectator

Wonderful purity of fruit, with lemon, pineapple and honey character. Full-bodied, with a sleek, racy texture and a long, sweet fruit aftertaste. Best after 2000.

Jancis Robinson

Jancis Robinson

Bright green-gold. Rich, glucose-like nose. Very sweet and round at first but slightly hollow in the mid-palate. Good acidity but this wine needs a solid core. (JR)

Weinwisser

Rather pale color. Open, ripe bouquet, slightly floral, with a mineral backdrop and chalky notes. On the palate, sweet-salty, somewhat pasty fruit, better than in previous years.

Description

An expressive and beautifully complex Sauternes wine

The property

The Château de Myrat is a family estate established in the Sauternes appellation. The wines from this Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes are appreciated for their balance, elegance, and refinement.

The vineyard

Château de Myrat is a Sauternes wine from a 22-hectare vineyard located in Haut-Barsac, a clay-limestone plateau on fractured limestone.

Vinification and aging

Manual harvest by successive sorting. Vinification by daily batches. The fermentation is carried out in barrels, as is the aging (30% new barrels) for 18 months.

Blend

Sémillon (88 %)
Sauvignon blanc (8 %)
Muscadelle (4 %).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château de Myrat 1997

Tasting

Color
Its pale yellow color with amber reflections reveals a clear and bright wine.

Nose
The nose, of great complexity, opens with subtle aromas of linden, acacia honey, gingerbread, and nutmeg.

Palate
The palate is seduced by its roundness and silky texture, developing flavors of candied fruit and dried apricots in the finish. This vintage, with its finesse and balance, stands out for its delicate and feminine character. The whole, ample and generous, ends on a spicy finish dominated by ginger and orange zest.
