Description
A harmonious and structured Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion by Château Faugères
The estate
The Château Faugères terroir dates back to the 19th century. In 1987, Pierre-Bernard Guire and his wife inherited the estate and elevated its vineyard, with the help of Michel Rolland, to the highest level of the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. The estate teams are constantly in search for quality, aiming to express the estate’s unique terroir in the glass.
The vineyard
The Château Faugères vineyard covers 37 hectares in the Saint-Emilion appellation. The vineyard is managed with sustainable agriculture.
The vintage
A particularly rainy winter preceded a very mild spring, resulting in significant mildew pressure. Thanks to the dry and warm conditions of mid-May, flowering was uniform and early. From June 19, the precipitation gave way to dry and cool weather until mid-July, which marked the beginning of veraison. Very high temperature peaks were recorded until mid-August, when thunderstorms allowed the grapes to restart the ripening process. The grapes, harvested around ten days ahead of average, had high levels of tannin and colour, and were perfectly balanced.
The vinification and ageing
28 days vatting. Ageing lasts 12 months (50% in new French oak barrels, 50% in second-fill barrels).
The blend
The Château Faugères 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (21%), Cabernet Sauvignon (9%).
The tasting
The Château Faugères 2020 seduces with its structure, its balance and its great ageing potential.
