The estate
Classified as a Fifth Growth in 1855, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste spans 90 hectares, including 55 hectares planted to a single, continuous vineyard plot, located on one of the most renowned gravel rises of the Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux. Owned by the Borie family since 1978, the estate is run by François-Xavier Borie, together with his daughter Émeline Borie, ensuring the continuity of demanding family stewardship and the preservation of know-how passed down from generation to generation.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste benefits from an outstanding terroir in Pauillac, composed of deep, coarse gravel on rises. The 55 hectares of vines are planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The average vine age is 38 years. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, with exclusively mechanical soil work and sustainable pest control.
Winemaking and aging
At Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2009, the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand. The grapes undergo double sorting on vibrating tables, before and after destemming. Vinification includes a long maceration period of around three weeks. Aging takes place in fine-grain French oak barrels, with 75% new oak, for a period of 16 to 18 months.
Grape varieties
80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc.
