Description
The richness and fruitiness of a velvety Pessac-Léognan
Under the realm of Maison Dourthe since 1990, Château La Garde has a splendid and vast vineyard of 50 hectares located on a superb gravel ridge in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, south of the Bordeaux region. Because great wines come from great terroirs, the Maison Dourthe made investments into the restructuring of its vineyards. This has helped raised the rank of the wines from Château La Garde to among the most beautiful wines from the appellation.
Vintage after vintage, Château La Garde's wines are distinguished by their style and their consistent quality, which reflect a terroir that contributes to superb balance and great ageing potential.
The 2017 vintage will be remembered because of the frost that hit the Bordeaux vineyards at the end of April, but the vintage also produced excellent wines, and the Château La Garde 2017 is one of the most tempting from the beautiful Pessac-Léognan. With vineyards that escaped the frosts, the growing season took place under the most favourable conditions. As a savvy vintage, the harvest revealed Merlots filled with anthocyanins that gives the wine a beautiful, concentrated colour while exuding freshness from the fruit. The harvest then continued with Caberbet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, which were both picked at full ripeness at the end of September.
From a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (66%) complemented with Merlot (31%) and Petit Verdot (3%), Château La Garde 2017 presents a bouquet with a great aromatic richness while the mouthfeel is concentrated and structured with subtle velvety tannins. A real success for this excellent Pessac-Léognan vintage.
