The estate
Château La Lagune, founded in 1587, is a prestigious wine estate located in the Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux. The château, designed by architect Baron Victor Louis, who also designed the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, is a fine example of Bordeaux architectural elegance. Classified as a 3ème Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate stretches across an exceptional gravelly terroir, fostering a unique microclimate. Since 2004, Caroline Frey has been deploying all her expertise to elevate Château La Lagune to the highest level.
The vineyard
Located in the Haut-Médoc on light gravelly soils composed of pink, yellow and white quartz, calcite and agates, the 70-hectare vineyard, aged between 20 and 60 years, benefits from an ideal terroir for the expression of Bordeaux grape varieties. The property is strongly committed to preserving biodiversity, with 40 hectares of forests, marshes and meadows, as well as 150 trees and 2,700 metres of hedges planted.
Vinification and ageing
Manual harvesting followed by a triple manual sorting completed by optical sorting. Cold pre-fermentation maceration for the merlot and petit verdot. No sulphites added at vatting. Extractions are gentle through pump-overs. Ageing takes place 50% in barrels (including 25% new oak), as well as in large casks, stainless steel, concrete and porcelain vats. Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Blend
50% merlot, 41% cabernet sauvignon and 9% petit verdot.
