Description

A structured and balanced Saint-Estèphe wine

The estate

The origins of Château Laffitte Carcasset date back to the beginning of the 18th century. Located in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Laffitte Carcasset is surrounded by some of the finest estates of Bordeaux. Acquired by the Rousseau family in 2016, this estate is classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur and is an important reference in the appellation.

The vineyard

Château Laffitte-Carcasset is a Saint-Estèphe wine that stems from a 35-hectare vineyard. Boasting the HVE level 3 label and located on the plateau of the appellation, the vines are 30 years old on average and are planted on Garonne gravel soils and clay-limestone subsoils.

The vintage

Thanks to its proximity to the estuary, the appellation's vineyards resisted the spring frost. Although flowering was recorded at the beginning of June, similar to the time recorded over the previous 30 years, the mildew pressure resulting from cool, rainy conditions had an impact on yields. Alternating sunny days and rainy spells in July slowed down veraison while maintaining a strong disease pressure. The milder conditions from mid-August onwards were ideal for boosting the grapes' ripeness levels. The harvest was carried out late, from September 22nd to October 8th.

Vinification and ageing

Intra-plot selection and harvesting of each terroir at optimum maturity. Fermentation is carried out in the new gravity-fed vat room (stainless steel and concrete vats). Slow and gentle extractions. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels (40% of which are new).

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (65%)

Merlot (30%)

Cabernet Franc (5%).
