Description
The finesse and aromatic palette of a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
With archives testifying to its existence as early as 1585, Château Larmande is one of the oldest properties in Saint-Émilion, on Bordeaux's Right Bank. This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé is owned by the AG2R LA MONDIALE Group.
The vineyard
Located in Saint-Émilion, Château Larmande oversees a 22-hectare vineyard with vines, on average 25 years old, planted on clay-limestone soil made up of ancient sands, clay and silica. The estate is keen to work its vines as closely as possible to nature in order to preserve the local biodiversity.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by an episode of frost at the beginning of April which caused local damage to the vineyard. Flowering was early. The rainfall recorded in June preceded a hot and dry summer, punctuated by heat waves which resulted in scalding of the grapes. Thanks to deep rooting and rigorous vineyard management, the vines were able to resist this extreme weather.
Winemaking and ageing
Manual harvesting and sorting. Vatting by gravity. Vinification in vats. The wine was aged for 18 months, 40% in new barrels, 30% in one-wine barrels, 15% in amphorae and 15% in vats.
Blend
Château Larmande 2022 is a blend of Merlot (79%), Cabernet Franc (19%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%).
