Wine Spectator

James Molesworth

Cherry and boysenberry preserve flavors stream through, gilded with iris and anise notes. A subtle chalky underlay on the finish keeps this honest. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2031. 3,166 cases made.

Decanter

Rich, ripe and intense fruit on the nose. Controlled and lean on the palate, less plush than the nose suggests, but still with firm, softly chewy tannins that give a cool, stony grip. A little bit herbal and toasted with the fruit pushed to the background, leaving some bitter dark chocolate, tobacco and flint elements to linger on the finish. Harvest 19 September–3 October. Yield of 32 hl/ha. Tasted twice.

Antonio Galloni

The 2022 Larrivaux is a delight. Intensely floral overtones are laced into a core of red/purplish fruit. Juicy and immediate but with plenty of supporting structure, Larrivaux is on the exuberant side in 2022, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced throughout.

Supple, long, and loaded with dark, creamy black fruits, with touches of espresso, cigar wrapper, and spice, this is exactly what savvy lovers of Left Bank Cabernet Sauvignon should be seeking out. Drink from 2025–2040.

From vines next to Saint-Estèphe, in the northern part of the appellation, the 2022 Château Larrivaux is deep purple-hued and has a gorgeous nose of cassis, black cherries, graphite, damp earth, and spicy oak. This carries to a medium- to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, layered, textured 2022 that has plenty of mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It should have a minimum of 10–12 years of longevity.

Gunsmoke reduction on opening, clears quickly, and this is a good-quality, balanced Haut-Médoc with plenty of charm and personality; a little tight in its tannic grip, black chocolate, cocoa bean, espresso. Run by generations of women since 1850, this is one to watch. Located in Cissac, lovely waves of rosebuds and iris. Tasted twice, great value option.

Le Figaro Vin

An exhilarating nose, with deep notes of dark fruits, ganache, and liqueur. On the palate, the wine is caressing and balanced.

Yves Beck

Still strongly marked by its élevage, Larrivaux’s bouquet reveals nuances of fresh wood as well as candied notes. Suave on the attack, the wine unfolds in a linear, seamless manner. It is supported by velvety, dense tannins that provide a solid backbone. A charming wine that deserves a little more time to blossom.

Terre de Vins

A rather subtle approach to a vigorous vintage full of character. A delicately perfumed nose, a slender and supple texture, with flesh that is at once full, open-knit, flavorful, and carried by a pleasant, mouthwatering energy. It’s perfectly ripe, sapid and easy to drink—everything we love in Bordeaux.

Description

An aromatic and delicate Haut-Médoc red wine

The estate

Located in the heart of the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Larrivaux is a wine estate founded in the 16th century. On a land where nothing existed before, the house and the vineyard were built against all odds. The particularity of this vineyard is that it has been run exclusively by mother and daughter since 1580.

The vineyard

Château Larrivaux 2022 is an Haut-Médoc wine made from a 15.5-hectare vineyard spread across 3 small islands of land, on clay-limestone and clay-sand soil. This terroir is HVE 3 certified.

Winemaking and ageing

Alcoholic fermentation in concrete and steel vats. Ageing in vats and barrels.

Blend

Château Larrivaux 2022 is a blend of Merlot (51%), Cabernet Sauvignon (28%) and Cabernet Franc (21%).
