Description

The concentration and ripeness of a red wine from Graves

The estate

Enjoying a superb location in the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Larrivet Haut-Brion proudly sits to the south of Bordeaux. Owned by the Gervoson family since 1987, the estate has truly earned its reputation. The entire Gervoson family strives with passion and enthusiasm to produce elegant wines with a great character.

The vineyard

From 17 hectares of vines in 1987, Château Larrivet Haut-Brion rose to 72.5 hectares in just a few years following the acquisition of new plots of vines and new land. Planted on deep gravelly soil with a clay matrix that is well-drained and enjoys an ideal sun exposure, this exceptional vineyard produces fine Pessac-Léognan wines.

The vintage

2019 is a year marked by a summer whose hot and dry conditions had an impact on both the vineyard and yields. Subsequently, cooler and more humid weather enabled the grapes to refine their ripening process. The 2019 harvest at Château Larrivet Haut-Brion took place from September 19th to October 1st. Although the yields were quite low (35 hl/ha), the quality was high and showcased a superb concentration and high quality tannins.

Vinification and ageing

Harvested by hand, the grapes are sorted on a table before destemming, then by optical sorting. Vinification by plot in small temperature-controlled concrete vats, with regular punching of the cap. Long maceration (4 to 5 weeks). Aged for 14 to 18 months in French oak barrels (40% new, 60% first-fill). Racking occurs every three months.
