Description
The refinement of a Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion
The estate
The Château Les Grandes Murailles, Grand Cru Classé from Saint-Émilion, is located near Clos Fourtet, also owned by the Cuvelier family. Drawing on the experience of this great terroir on the Right Bank of Bordeaux, the Cuvelier family is driven by the desire to produce timeless wines built on finesse, offering great aging potential.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Les Grandes Murailles extends over 1.96 hectares in the heart of Saint-Émilion. It is planted on the typical clay-limestone soils of the appellation. The vines are managed in respect of natural balances with sustainable agriculture.
The vintage
A mild and particularly wet winter replenished the soil’s water reserves depleted by the 2019 drought and encouraged an early bud burst. The spring was warm and humid. More favorable conditions between May 12 and May 25 allowed optimal flowering. Subsequently, the dry and cool climate, combined with limited water stress, was ideal to ensure the progressive ripening of the grapes. In early September, the alternation of warm days with cool nights was conducive to the aromatic expression of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation in small thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and in jars. Gentle extraction by remontage and pigeage to preserve the purity of the fruit. Maceration for 24 days. Malolactic fermentation in vat. Aging in an underground cellar for 16 to 18 months in barrels (50% new and 50% one-wine barrels).
Grape variety
100% Merlot.
