Description
A fresh and complex Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
The estate
Château Les Grandes Murailles, a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, is located near Clos Fourtet, and also belongs to the Cuvelier family. Blessed with a great terroir on the right bank of Bordeaux, the Cuvelier family is driven by the desire to produce timeless wines of great finesse and significant ageing potential.
The vineyard
The vineyard of Château Les Grandes Murailles covers 1.96 hectares in the heart of Saint-Émilion. This terroir produces fine Saint-Emilion wines and is planted in the clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation. The vines are cultivated in accordance with natural balances and sustainable agriculture,
The vintage
A mild and wet winter favoured a regular and homogeneous budburst. The teams’ diligence helped to protect the vineyard from frost in early spring. May and June were marked by heavy rainfall, which led to high disease pressure, which was contained by the teams. Flowering took place under good conditions, benefiting from a favourable climatic window. In August, a four-week water stress allowed the limestone soils to ensure a slow and progressive ripening of the grapes. The mild weather conditions in September are ideal for refining the ripening process and developing a beautiful aromatic complexity.
Vinification and ageing
Fermentation in small thermo-regulated stainless steel vats and jars. Gentle extraction by pumping over and punching down to preserve the purity of the fruit. Bleeding (up to 20%) in order to harmonise the natural balance of the vintage. Vatting for 24 days. Malolactic fermentation in vats. Aged in underground cellars for 16 to 18 months in barrels (50% new and 50% second-fill barrels).
The blend
Merlot (100%).
