The estate
Built in 1782 and originally owned by the wine merchant Bernard Chénier, Marjosse was acquired by the Deleuze family, who in 1990 leased a few parcels to Pierre Lurton under a tenant farming agreement.
In 1992, Pierre Lurton, who grew up at neighbouring Château Reynier, close to this magnificent Chartreuse, moved into a secondary house at Marjosse and, over the years, gradually purchased several parcels of the Deleuze family's property.
In 2000, Pierre Lurton had an ultramodern winery built, housing more than 40 concrete tanks, and in 2013 he became the owner of the entire vineyard as well as the Chartreuse.
The Marjosse vineyard extends over 40 hectares. Planted on exceptional clay-limestone soils, this terroir is made up of young and old vines, some of them over a century old. The vineyard comprises several grape varieties, such as Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for the Marjosse red, as well as Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Muscadelle for the Marjosse white.
The wine
Anthologie de Marjosse Cuvée Hirondelle 2019 by Marjosse is produced under the Vin de France designation from 75-year-old vines rooted in clay-limestone soils. Made exclusively from Muscadelle, this cuvée takes its name from what this grape variety shares with the swallow: demanding requirements and fragility.
Vinification and ageing
In 2017, Pierre Lurton appointed Jean-Marc Domme as technical director. For the first time in the estate's history, Pierre Lurton introduced separate vinification by parcel and the creation of micro-cuvées in limited quantities from the grapes of the most remarkable parcels, in order to express the characteristics and microclimate of each one.
Aged for 12 months in concrete egg and stainless steel tank.
Grape variety
Muscadelle (100%).
