Description
The Expression and Balance of a Saint-Émilion Wine
The Estate
Situated at the southern entrance to the village of Saint-Émilion, the Château Moulin Saint-Georges occupies an exceptional position, facing the famous Château Ausone and neighboring Château La Clotte. Since its acquisition in 1921, this discreet cru has been cherished by the Vauthier family, now in its fifth generation. The historic Fongaban stream, witness to the centuries, flows nearby, reminding us of the ephemerality of Man and his fleeting role in enhancing this vineyard. In times past, a mill belonging to the seigneury of Saint-Georges stood where the estate’s winery and cellars now stand.
The Vineyard
Spread over 7 hectares at the foot of Saint-Émilion, the vineyard of Château Moulin Saint-Georges is nestled on a west-facing limestone slope. With predominantly clay-limestone soil, this vineyard benefits from exceptional natural drainage thanks to the Fongaban stream. The vines, averaging 35 years old, thus impart unparalleled concentration and complexity to the wine.
Vinification and Aging
Hand harvesting and densimetric sorting. Parcel-based vinification. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the pure aromatic expression. Aging for 18 months in new barrels, conferring a good tannic structure, delicate oaky notes, and a rare aromatic complexity.
Blend
This 2020 Château Moulin Saint-Georges is the result of a blend of merlot and cabernet franc.
