Decanter

Heady aromatics with ripe, dark fruit and perfumed floral scents. Juicy and rich, sumptuous and wide with velvety tannins, just shy of chewy but still filling, but gorgeously pure fruit and high acidity to balance everything out. Certainly a more bold style than some but this really works, lots of personality with a fresh mint, clove and liquorice spice undertone. Excellent. Full of life, structure, sun, freshness and charm. I love it. Yield of 35hl/ha. Ageing 100% in oak barrels.

Aromatically, the wine unhesitatingly offers flowers, chocolate, black cherries, blackberries, licorice, and espresso nuances. The palate is not shy either; there you find a wealth of espresso-tinted, dark-pit fruits, cocoa, spice, and almost liqueur notes. Opulent in nature, the supple, fruit-driven finish is long and mouth-filling. The wine is produced from 100% old-vine Merlot. Drink from 2029-2055. 95-97 Pts

Luscious dark berry fruits, leafy raspberry and rose stem, clear cocoa bean, this is marked by fresh acidities but softens and opens in the glass, plenty of potential over ageing. Harvest September 5 to 12. 33% new oak. 35 hl/ha yield.

Yves Beck

From the outset, the bouquet of Péby-Faugères puts the clay-limestone terroir first, with a clear emphasis on chalky nuances. These are joined by aromas of raspberry and blackcurrant, along with menthol notes. The creamy attack paves the way for a wine focused on subtlety, without preventing it from shining with power! It has everything needed to create a successful symbiosis, where finesse is present in equal measure with temperament and vigor. The resulting harmony is exceptional. A wine that proves its greatness, without all the artifices that have sometimes shaped its character. It is outstanding and asserts itself brilliantly.

Vinum

Deep, with subtle ageing notes, ripe cherry fruit, an herbal spiciness, a touch of blackcurrant, then mocha and floral nuances; on the palate, very well structured, the finest limestone tannins wrap around the crunchy fruit, powerful yet highly elegant, with lively acidity and a fine sense of tension; the finish is long, saline, and red-fruited. An outstanding Péby-Faugères with plenty of elegance.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Peby Faugères 2025

Tasting

Colour
This wine displays a deep, intense hue, enhanced by delicate garnet highlights.

Nose
Particularly expressive, the bouquet reveals fine ripeness through aromas of black fruit. This aromatic profile is harmoniously supported by touches of green pepper, liquorice and fresh leather.

Palate
The attack is broad and enveloping, perfectly balanced by fresh, well-structured acidity and chalky tannins of great finesse. The palate offers lovely complexity, with flavours of Burlat cherry, fresh raspberry and peony, stretching into a long, saline and supremely elegant finish.

Food and wine pairings
This great wine will elevate noble red meats such as beef, lamb or game. It will also pair beautifully with more delicate dishes such as roast duck or veal, as well as blue cheeses and fine charcuterie.

Serving and ageing
Château Peby Faugères 2025 has remarkable ageing potential. It can be cellared and will be at its best between 10 and 30 years after the harvest, that is until around 2055.

The pure expression of Merlot in a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

The estate
Located in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse in the renowned Bordeaux region, Château Peby Faugères was founded in 1998 as a tribute to Pierre Bernard Guisez. Today, the estate is run by Silvio Denz, who acquired this gem in 2005. Elevated to Grand Cru Classé status, the vineyard stands out for its constant pursuit of excellence and its exceptional terroir. The estate's hallmark lies in its environmental commitment and modern facilities, seamlessly combining winemaking tradition with technical innovation to produce wines of rare elegance.

The vineyard
Covering 6.75 hectares, the vineyard lies on a south-south-east-facing clay-limestone slope that shares the same characteristics as the famous slopes of Saint-Émilion. The vines, some of which are nearly 50 years old, benefit from an ideal microclimate. The estate is certified organic and holds the Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3 label, reflecting a deep respect for biodiversity and the soil.

Vinification and ageing
Maceration lasts 25 to 28 days. Vinification is carried out with precision in stainless steel vats, concrete vats and directly in barrels. The wine is then aged entirely in oak, with a meticulous split: one third new barrels, one third barrels previously used for one wine and one third barrels previously used for two wines.
