Description
The power of a balanced and harmonious Saint-Estèphe
A beautiful reference of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Château Phélan-Ségur stands out among the rest on the left bank of Bordeaux and expands over a superb vineyard of 70 hectares.
Following a wet and cold winter and a mild and rainy spring, a miracle occurred: a dry and hot summer. Despite the strong mildew pressure during the months of May and June, the Château Phélan-Ségur vineyard was not severely harmed. During the great drought of the summer months, the clay-gravel soil of Château Phélan-Ségur allowed for an accumulation of underground water resources. In September and October the fruit enjoyed conditions ideal for ripening, in time for harvests beginning on September 24th and ending on October 11th.
The Château Phélan-Ségur 2018 blends Cabernet Sauvignon (57%) and Merlot (43%). At the tasting, the wine displays an intense ruby red colour in the glass, with bright violet reflections. A very expressive nose offers delicious aromas of ripe red fruit, with hints of plum and ripe cherry. The wine caresses the palate right after the entry, and shows off a generous and juicy texture. This wine has an exceptionally powerful tannic structure with round, polished tannins. Crunchy and juicy, the mid-palate retains beautiful fruit and a length that lingers with toasty notes and hints of espresso. A great, intense and concentrated Saint-Estèphe that will age wonderfully well over the years.
