Description

A refined and complex Saint-Emilion wine

The estate

Château Quintus was born from the union of the Château Tertre Daugay and Château L’Arrosée terroirs, respectively acquired by the family company Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and in 2013. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property of the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming one's fifth child Quintus.

The vineyard

Château Quintus produces Saint-Emilion wines from a 42-hectare vineyard that enjoys a unique mosaic of terroirs. Aged 30 years on average, the vines are planted on a plateau upon a succession of south-facing limestone layers, as well as on south-facing clay-limestone and gravelly soils at the north of the estate.

The vintage

Less early than in recent years, 2021 began with a particularly mild winter. The spring frost episode had little impact on the vineyard thanks to its well-ventilated geographical position. Despite the heavy rainfall in June, the vineyard was not affected by any cryptogamic diseases due to its limestone promontory, its topography and its optimal natural drainage. Although the coolness of July slowed down the vegetative development, the warm and sunny days during September are ideal and helped to refine the ripeness of the grapes.

Vinification and ageing

Meticulous sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar in order to keep only the best grapes. Vinification at low temperature, favouring gentle extractions. Aged in barrels (36% new).

The blend

Merlot (68.2%)

Cabernet Franc (31.3%)

Malbec (0.5%).
