Description
An exceptional fresh and voluptuous Sauternes wine with a great vintage ending in 7
The producer
Château Suduiraut, Premier cru Classé in 1855, in the Sauternes AOC, is a promised land of 92 hectares devoted to vines. Adjacent to the vineyards of Château d'Yquem, Château Suduiraut is a 17th century property and the gardens were designed by André Le Nôtre. The elaboration of a golden wine resulting from severe plot selections is very precise.
The vineyard
The 91 hectare vineyard on sandy-clay gravel soil bears the High Environmental Value certification. This highly filtering and thin soil push the vine to draw deeply from its terroir, thus reinforcing its character in the wines. The vines are on average 35 years old and are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture.
The vintage
The frosts at the end of April 2017 did not spare the vineyard, which budded slightly early. However, the subsequent weather conditions allowed the vine to reach the end of its growing period. 2017 highlighted the complexity of the vintage as well as the technical skills of the Château's teams. With plots marked by a strong heterogeneity with regards to maturity, extreme attention was paid to the vines. The famous noble rot, "botrytis cinerea", settled in late and gave excellent results. The harvest, carried out in 3 successive selections, highlighted the superb concentration of sugars in the grapes while preserving a great aromatic freshness.
The vinification and ageing
The wine is aged for 18 months, 50% in new barrels and 50% in second-fill barrels.
The blend
This Château Suduiraut 2017 is a blend of Semillon (94%) and Sauvignon Blanc (6%).
The tasting
Colour
The wine has a beautiful golden colour. As the wine evolves over time, it can take on subtle amber hues.
Nose
Complex, this wine blends floral and fruity aromas (candied and roasted grapes) with harmony and elegance.
Palate
Dense and refined, the palate seduces with its subtle alliance between a voluptuous texture, refreshing mineral notes and subtle spicy notes. An exceptional vintage ending in 7 for sweet wines.
