Vinum

Dark-fruited, spicy, cherry-driven, with rose petal notes and subtle toasted nuances; on the palate, approachable, starting slightly creamy, then it grips, with pronounced acidity and fine tannins. The wine has great drinkability and shows elegance; pleasantly long, and spicy again on the finish.

Perfumed fragrance on the nose. Juicy and fun straight away, the acidity gives this energy, focus and lift, bright and upfront. I love this, not trying too hard at all, there’s still tannins in the background but all the focus is on the fruit and balance. Crisp, yet totally fragrant on the palate too. There’s power no doubt but this is just really charming. Will be lovely after ageing.

Black cherries, licorice, flowers, chocolate, smoke, and mint leaves create the perfume. The multiple layers of fruit grab your attention with their elegance, purity, and energy, finishing with a refreshing touch of chocolate-mint and a light touch of sea salt, adding sapidity, so you want to take another sniff and sip, just for the pleasure of it. The wine blends 45% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. 13% ABV. The harvest took place from September 16 to September 19, making this the shortest harvest in the property's history. Yields were 35 hectoliters per hectare. Drink from 2029-2055.

Inviting, the bouquet reveals nuances of sweet spices, fresh wood and dark berries. On the palate, the wine shows a creamy touch on the attack. Its tannins bring energy and structure, in harmony with the crisp edge of the acidity. A lively, savory and persistent wine.

Deep, dark color. An intense, fine, subtle and complex nose. Broad on the attack, juicy and complex on the mid-palate, with plenty of flavor and a classy, silky feel, the wine unfolds slowly over a rich, creamy texture. It finishes with increasing density—noble, deep and savory—lingering with a long violet note. A magnificent success. Blend: 65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.8% - pH: 3.41. Yield: 39 hl/ha. Production: 110,000 bottles. Harvest - Merlot: September 4 to 23 - Cabernet Franc: September 19 to 24.

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for Clos La Gaffelière 2025

Tasting

Appearance
The glass reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by vibrant purple highlights that reflect its youth and beautiful concentration.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is intense and complex. It opens with notes of ripe red and black fruits, such as black cherry, raspberry and plum. Delicate floral hints reminiscent of violet intertwine with a characteristic mineral framework, marked by nuances of chalk and graphite, rounded off by subtle oak.

Palate
The attack reveals a wine that is both rich and elegant, with a medium to full body. The juicy, fruit-forward expression is supported by round, silky tannins. An unexpected freshness brings balance to the whole, leading into a long and refined finish where flavours of ripe fruit, sweet spices and a beautiful mineral depth come together.

Food and wine pairing
This cuvée will pair wonderfully with lean red meats, such as grilled lamb chops with herbs. It will also be a brilliant match for poultry-based dishes, such as duck breast with cherries or roast chicken with mushrooms. For vegetarian alternatives, a mushroom risotto with truffle oil or roasted vegetables will be wise choices. Finally, medium-aged pressed cheeses, such as Comté, will elevate the tasting experience.

Clos La Gaffelière 2025 is a wine that offers fine ageing potential. It can be kept and enjoyed until around 2035.

Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13.6% vol., with a total acidity of 3.6 and a pH measured at 3.5.

The elegance of a great Saint-Émilion terroir expressed in a second wine from Château La Gaffelière

The estate
Located in the heart of the Bordeaux region, Château La Gaffelière has very ancient winegrowing origins, but it was in 1705 that the Malet Roquefort family officially settled there. Today, Count Léo de Malet Roquefort and his son Alexandre run this historic estate. Renowned for its exceptional terroir, this property embodies a prestigious name that has successfully combined age-old traditions with modern techniques. The estate stands out for its remarkable family longevity and its constant commitment to the excellence of its wines.

The vineyard
Covering an area of 20 hectares within the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, the vineyard lies on hillsides and lower slopes with clay-limestone soils. Certified High Environmental Value (HVE), the estate practises sustainable agriculture. The vines benefit from natural grass cover, single and double Guyot pruning, as well as meticulous work such as leaf thinning and green harvesting. Harvesting is carried out exclusively by hand, into small crates, to preserve the integrity of the berries.

The vintage
The 2025 vintage was marked by an early budburst, followed by a swift and even flowering. During the summer, intense heat caused water stress. Fortunately, welcome rainfall at the end of August allowed the berries to plump up again and ripening to resume optimally, leading to an early harvest.

Vinification and ageing
To produce Clos La Gaffelière 2025, the grapes undergo rigorous sorting by density as soon as they arrive at the cellar. Vinification is carried out plot by plot in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation is accompanied by regular pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation in tank. Ageing then takes place half in barrels (50% of which are new) and half in tanks. Alcohol: 13.6% vol.

Grape varieties
This wine is made from a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
