Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for Les Glorieuses 2023 from Clos Marie
Tasting
Colour
This cuvée displays a dark, remarkably deep colour.
Nose
The nose reveals great aromatic complexity, blending scents of ripe black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry with notes of concentrated red fruit. With aeration, subtle floral hints of violet and lavender unfold, accompanied by typical garrigue aromas, gentle spices and light nuances of graphite.
Palate
On the palate, this wine combines power and freshness through a fleshy body and a velvety texture. The fine, noble and structuring tannins are perfectly balanced by a linear acidity, leading to a finish of remarkable length.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs beautifully with flavourful meats and Mediterranean cuisine. It is an ideal match for roast leg of lamb, pigeon stuffed with mushrooms, or duck breast glazed with honey and spices.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate Les Glorieuses 2023, serve this wine at a temperature of 16–17°C, taking care to decant the bottle two to three hours before tasting. Built to last, this wine has outstanding ageing potential.
The elegance and depth of a great Pic Saint-Loup wine
The estate
Officially established in 2000, Clos Marie has become an essential benchmark in the Languedoc. Run by its founders, Françoise Julien and Christophe Peyrus, the estate covers around 23 hectares of passionately tended vines. Deeply committed to protecting the environment, the owners farm the entire vineyard organically and biodynamically. Thanks to an artisanal, minimal-intervention approach, the estate produces rare and highly sought-after cuvées that express with great precision all the richness and freshness of their Mediterranean terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Lauret, in the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, the vineyard thrives at an altitude of around 650 metres on the foothills of the Hortus mountain. The very old vines, ranging from 20 to over 40 years of age, sink their roots into deep soils of marl and clay-limestone derived from a piedmont alluvial fan. This high-altitude terroir enjoys a contrasting Mediterranean climate, with cool nights that encourage slow, optimal ripening of the berries. All the plots are farmed according to biodynamic principles, and the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand.
Winemaking and ageing
Les Glorieuses 2023 is the result of a minimal-intervention approach to winemaking. The grapes, including a significant proportion of whole bunches, undergo a long maceration of 15 to 20 days. The wine is then aged over two to three winters, or 22 to 30 months, in large vessels such as foudres and 600-litre demi-muids. This long rest on fine lees allows the wine to clarify and stabilise naturally.
