The elegance and complexity of a great wine from the La Clape appellation
The estate
Founded in the twelfth century by the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem, the Commanderie de Saint-Pierre la Garrigue is a historic estate located in the Languedoc. Left abandoned, the estate was acquired in 2005 by Jehan de Woillemont, the current owner and eighth-generation representative of his family's winemaking legacy. After ten years of meticulous restoration, the estate now spans a vineyard of around sixty hectares. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate is renowned for producing wines of great precision that express the full richness of their Mediterranean terroir.
The vineyard
Located in the heart of the La Clape massif, the vineyard enjoys an exceptional seafront position, directly overlooking the Mediterranean. The vines benefit from east and south exposure, promoting optimal sunlight while being cooled by sea breezes. The terroir is made up of a mosaic of complex soils, combining iron-rich red earth, white limestone soils and sandstone. Farmed organically, the estate preserves rich local biodiversity, surrounded by pines, olive trees and Mediterranean scrubland.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by hot weather conditions, typical of the Mediterranean region. The growing cycle allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while retaining good acidity, offering a perfect balance between sugar concentration and fruit freshness.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Commanderie Saint-Pierre la Garrigue Rouge 2022 relies on rigorous quality management of the fruit and a harvest timed with great care to preserve the berries' natural tension. The final blend is crafted meticulously to express the full complexity of the limestone terroir.
Grape varieties
The blend is composed predominantly of Grenache Noir, complemented by Mourvèdre, Carignan and Syrah.
