A powerful, elegant red wine from Languedoc, born of the La Clape terroir
The estate
The Commanderie de Saint-Pierre la Garrigue traces its origins back to the late 12th century, when it was established as a commandery of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. Led since 2005 by Count Jehan de Woillemont, the eighth generation of winegrowers, the estate underwent a complete restoration over ten years. Today, the property spans 50 to 60 hectares in Languedoc and has been cultivating its vines according to organic farming principles since 2018, while maintaining Haute Valeur Environnementale certification.
The vineyard
The vineyard behind Grand Maître 2017 enjoys a privileged location on the heights of La Clape, around forty meters above the Mediterranean. The east- and south-facing plots lie on clay-limestone soils that give this Languedoc wine its distinctive minerality. Maritime influence moderates temperatures and promotes optimal ripening of the grapes. The cordon de royat training system naturally limits yields to concentrate aromas.
Vinification and aging
Grand Maître 2017 is crafted using methods that respect the terroir, favoring the grapes’ natural expression. Barrel aging allows the wine to develop aromatic complexity while preserving the elegance of the tannins.
Grape varieties
Mourvèdre, syrah, carignan
