Contea di Sclafani Wines : Key Points

South of the Madonie mountains in Sicily, the 50 hectares of vineyards of the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) Contea di Sclafani are located in the territory of an ancient Sicilian feudal state established by the Normans in 1330 in the province of Palermo. This very green region of incomparable richness is an exceptional land where the vines have produced DOC Contea di Sclafani wine since 1996. In order to befit this prestigious name, they are cultivated above 300 metres in altitude, on predominantly sandy clay soils.

Under the DOC Contea di Sclafani appellation, producers can make "classic" wines or wines from late harvest. In order to comply with the specifications of the appellation, these wines must respect a strict vinification process with a limited yield per hectare and a minimum of 6 months maturation in wooden barrels. These wines, red or white, are respectively made with Nero d'Avola or Perricone for the reds and Cataratto for the whites.

White or red, late harvest or not, these wines are perfect with fish starters, white meats, cold meats and fromage frais.
