Decanter

Spicy with savoury aromas on the nose. Nutmeg, cinnamon and ripe peachy stone fruit on the palate. Juicy and creamy with a soft texture and a delicate, freshly balanced finish.

James Suckling

A wide spectrum of exotic fruit and flower aromas pulls you into this concentrated and finely nuanced Condrieu, which has a ravishing apricot flavor on the mid-palate, then a very long finish that’s simultaneously creamy and filigree. I love the touch of saltiness that lingers like an afterglow. From a 1.98 hectare plot just north of the tiny Chateau Grillet appellation. Drink or hold.

Tank sample. Not much on the nose, pears perhaps. Soft acidity, sour freshness. A bit flat, but recognisably Condrieu. Chewy and textured. (JH)

Bettane+Desseauve

More delicate and refined than La Galopine, with better persistence for this Condrieu that shows lovely presence on the palate—clean and elegant.

Description

The intensity and elegance of a Rhône Valley white wine

The estate

Founded in 1835, Maison Delas Frères is a benchmark among Northern Rhône Valley wines. Its purchase by Champagne Deutz in 1977 marked the start of a new era, then the company's international expansion continued when it was acquired in 1993 by the Rouzaud family, majority shareholders in the Louis Roederer group. Convinced that the essence of each wine comes from the great geological and climatological diversity of the vineyards of the Rhône Valley, Maison Delas is committed to vinifying and ageing its plots separately to reveal the very essence of the wines of each appellation.

The vineyard

The vineyards stretch over three departments: Rhône, Loire and Ardèche. It covers 130 hectares with an annual production of 4,700 hl. The steep granite soils, which proudly dominate the Rhône Valley, defy all attempts at mechanisation, giving each bunch its own unique character.

The wine

The result of a meticulous plot selection, this Condrieu wine originates from the "Clos Boucher," a south-facing plot. This wine is only made in exceptional years, with production limited to around 7,000 bottles a year.

Winemaking and ageing

After careful pressing, the musts are fermented in new barrels. They are then matured on their fine lees for almost six months, followed by regular stirring of the lees throughout the ageing process.
