Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Treilles Monopole 2019 from Domaine Belargus
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour of this white wine is a pale to golden yellow, bright and radiant, which may reveal subtle green highlights in its youth.
Nose
Rarely intense without being exuberant, the bouquet reveals great complexity. It blends aromas of ripe stone fruits and citrus with delicate floral notes and dried herbs. The whole is elevated by a deep mineral imprint evoking damp stone, flint and warm rock.
Palate
The palate stands out for its tension, energy and perfect balance. Carried by lovely acidity and a full, sometimes slightly chalky texture, it expresses remarkable mineral power. The finish offers exceptional length, marked by saline and lemony notes.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great dry white wine pairs beautifully with delicate yet flavourful dishes. It will enhance a ceviche, a sea bass tartare or citrus-marinated poultry. It also pairs perfectly with fine fish, grilled shellfish such as lobster, as well as structured vegetarian dishes such as a summer vegetable tian.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment of the Treilles Monopole 2019, it is recommended to serve it at around 10°C, decanting it two hours before the meal. With a structure built to last, this vintage has very strong ageing potential and can develop favourably over several decades.
The Pure Expression of an Exceptional Terroir in Anjou
The Estate
Founded in 2018 by Ivan Massonnat, Domaine Belargus has quickly established itself as a key reference in the Loire Valley. Located in the heart of the Anjou Noir, the estate spans 24 hectares of vines dedicated exclusively to Chenin. Now managed by the company VINISSIM, with Ivan Massonnat still at its head as owner, the estate stands out for its meticulous plot-by-plot approach. Committed to sustainable viticulture, it champions historic terroirs through certified organic practices and biodynamic conversion, producing wines of place with remarkable precision.
The Vineyard
The cuvée comes from the Coteau des Treilles, a 2.72-hectare monopole located within the Anjou appellation. This vertiginous terroir, with south-facing slopes reaching gradients of 30 to 70%, overlooks the Layon. Nestled within the Coteaux du Pont-Barré nature reserve, a haven of biodiversity untouched by chemicals, this vineyard rests on a genuine geological patchwork of spilites, schist, sandstone and ancient limestone. The vines, aged between 10 and 25 years, require entirely manual work carried out with the utmost respect for the environment.
Winemaking and Ageing
To craft the Treilles Monopole 2019, the grapes are harvested exclusively by hand. The berries are then gently direct-pressed to preserve all their freshness. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Finally, the wine benefits from a long 36-month ageing period in 400-litre French oak barrels, allowing its aromatic structure to gain complexity while retaining great purity.
