Description

Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Monte Bianco 2023 from Comte Abbatucci

Tasting

Appearance
A beautiful red hue adorned with subtle ruby highlights.

Nose
Strawberries, morello cherries and Corsican maquis herbs (myrtle) intermingle in a rich, powerful nose.

Palate
A lightly toasted attack gives way to a fruity palate, with fine, silky tannins that stretch into a persistent, expressive finish.

A Red Wine Combining Complexity and Refinement

The Estate
Located at an altitude of over 100 metres, Comte Abbatucci traces its origins back more than a century. Through its cuvées, it pays tribute to illustrious members of the family (a General of the French Revolution, a diplomat, a minister under Napoleon III) whose destinies have left their mark on the family's history. Committed to preserving this exceptional island terroir, the estate cultivates indigenous grape varieties that give its wines a unique character.
Since 2000, the entire vineyard has been farmed biodynamically, in order to showcase the distinctive qualities of a unique Corsican terroir while protecting an exceptional natural environment.

The Vineyard
Produced as a Vin de France, the Monte Bianco cuvée comes from a north-facing vineyard whose vines grow on granitic soils.

Vinification and Ageing
The harvest is received by gravity, then destemmed without crushing. Skin maceration takes place in temperature-controlled truncated conical vats, with a vatting period of about one month, accompanied by daily punching down and pumping over. Spontaneous fermentations are carried out in wood. After racking and pressing of the pomace, the juices are kept separate before 12 months of ageing in demi-muids. The wine is then racked and blended in a stainless steel tank, followed by 6 months of ageing before bottling.

Grape Variety
100% Sciaccarello.
