Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Silice 2024 from Domaine Coursodon
Tasting
On the palate, the Silice 2024 reveals a fine tannic structure, the result of a meticulous vinification that highlights the purity of the fruit and the aromatic complexity characteristic of the Syrah grape.
Serving and cellaring
The Silice 2024 is aged for twelve months in barrels and demi-muids, a choice that gives it a fine tannic structure and excellent ageing potential in the cellar in the years following bottling.

The estate
Domaine Coursodon is a family-owned estate founded in the late 19th century in Mauves, the historic cradle of the Saint-Joseph appellation, in the northern Rhône Valley. Today run by Pierre and Jérôme Coursodon, who represent the fifth generation, the estate cultivates approximately sixteen hectares of vines, exclusively within the Saint-Joseph appellation, on granite slopes worked entirely by hand. This exclusive focus and exacting standard make Coursodon an essential reference for the appellation.
The vineyard
The Syrah vines used for the Silice are planted on the steep slopes of the Saint-Joseph appellation, between Mauves and Tournon, on schist and granite soils with a south-south-easterly exposure. Trained in gobelet and planted at a density of approximately 7,000 vines per hectare, they are cultivated without any possibility of mechanisation because of the gradient, which requires manual work at every stage, from pruning through to harvest, with the grapes carried in small 40 kg crates to preserve the integrity of the bunches. Yields are deliberately kept low, at around 36 hl/ha.
Vinification and ageing
After hand harvesting, the grapes destined for the Silice 2024 are sorted on a sorting table and then fully destemmed. A cold pre-fermentation maceration precedes a fermentation of about fifteen days in open vats, punctuated by two punch-downs daily to ensure gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for twelve months in barrels and demi-muids, a choice that gives it a fine tannic structure and beautiful aromatic complexity.
Grape variety
The Silice 2024 is made from 100% Syrah, the king of the granite slopes of Saint-Joseph.
