Description
The subtle alliance of refinement and balance in a great Rhône Valley wine
The estate
An iconic name among the great wines of the northern Rhône Valley, Maison Paul Jaboulet-Aîné was founded in 1834 in Tain L’Hermitage. Renowned oenologist and winegrower Caroline Frey heads this illustrious house, which has belonged to the Frey family since 2006. Maison Paul Jaboulet Aîné tends 125 hectares of vineyards spread across exceptional appellations such as Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise.
The Hermitage and Crozes Hermitage vineyards have been farmed biodynamically since 2017.
Always in pursuit of innovation, the Frey family recently unveiled a new facility dedicated to crafting two of its flagship wines: La Chapelle and Chevalier de Stérimberg. Named Domaine de la Chapelle, this new complex, featuring a remarkable winery designed by the celebrated Danish architect Bjarke Ingels, embodies Caroline Frey and her team’s pursuit of excellence in creating ever more refined wines.
The vineyard
Wounded during the Albigensian Crusade, the knight Gaspard de Sterimberg asked Queen Blanche of Castile for permission to settle, in 1224, on a hill where he founded his hermitage.
Sourced from a rigorous selection of the finest plots in the western part of the appellation, this Hermitage wine is made from old vines aged 40 to 95 years, trained on single stakes and planted on a mosaic of terroirs that shape the signature of this exceptional cuvée.
Blend
La Chapelle Paul Jaboulet-Aîné 2006 from Domaine de la Chapelle is 100% Syrah.
