Description
An exceptional Saumur-Champigny wine from old vines at Domaine des Closiers
The estate
Acquired in 2018 by Anatole de La Brosse, a former consultant turned oenologist, the Domaine des Closiers spans 24 hectares in the Loire Valley. The estate benefits from Michel Chevré’s expertise in biodynamics and Nady Foucault’s in aging. Fifteen hectares are certified organic, planted mainly with cabernet franc on clay-limestone soils. This collaboration of Loire Valley vineyard experts favors a biodynamic approach focused on pure fruit expression.
The vineyard
The Trézellières cuvée comes from the eponymous parcel located on the slopes of Saumur-Champigny. The cabernet franc vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils overlooking the Loire. This limestone terroir gives the wine its characteristic minerality and exceptional aging potential.
Winemaking and aging
Hand-harvested, the grapes are carefully sorted in four successive passes. After full destemming and berry chilling, a cold maceration of about one month precedes fermentation. Aging takes place over 24 months in Bordeaux barrels, 30% of which are new, with gravity racking.
Grape variety
The 2021 Trézellières cuvée from Domaine des Closiers is 100% cabernet franc.
