The depth and minerality of a Saint-Joseph wine
The estate
Founded in 1937 by Francis Vernay, Domaine Georges Vernay is located in Condrieu, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. Historically renowned for safeguarding the Condrieu appellation and the Viognier grape variety, the estate now spans 24 hectares of vines grown on steep terraces. The property is currently run by Christine Vernay, joined since 2020 by her daughter Emma Amsellem. Together, they carry on an environmentally respectful family expertise, with organic and biodynamic certification.
The vineyard
The grapes come from vines over 45 years old, located in the commune of Chavanay within the Saint-Joseph appellation. This terroir of steep terraces, composed of granitic rock with biotite and black mica, requires entirely manual vine work. The entire vineyard is managed according to biodynamic principles.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Saint-Joseph "La Dame Brune" 2023 are harvested by hand. After destemming, the berries macerate in open wooden vats for two to three weeks. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in oak barrels, of which 30% are new oak and 70% are barrels previously used for one or more wines.
Grape variety
100% Syrah.
