Description
An expressive and mineral Chardonnay wine by Domaine Matrot
The estate
Domaine Matrot has been producing exceptional wines for 6 generations in the emblematic appellations of Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny.
Adèle and Elsa Matrot joined their parents at the estate a few years ago. 2016 is the first vintage produced by the two sisters, who continue to strive for excellence in the production of fine wines reflecting the characteristics of each vintage and of these fine Burgundy terroirs.
In 1976, Thierry Matrot introduced integrated viticultural practices at the estate, and in 2000 the entire 24-hectare vineyard was converted to integrated vineyard management.
Domaine Matrot is known for its utterly fine wines that boast a great ageing potential.
The vineyard
Domaine Matrot's 2016 Blagny is a Meursault Premier Cru wine made from vines that are 35 years old on average. The vines are planted on clay-limestone soil with limestone subsoil.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are harvested by hand and then pressed whole. Following a 24-hour decantation, the wine is settled and put into barrels.
Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts followed by malolactic fermentation.
The wine is aged on its lees for 12 months in 1 to 4-year-old oak barrels. The end of the ageing process is carried out in vats for 3 months before bottling.
The blend
Chardonnay (100%).
