Description
A generous Red wine from Beaujolais with a beautiful structure
The estate
Created in 1937 by Marcel Janin with the acquisition of the first plots at the lieu-dit Le Tremblay, Domaine Paul Janin now extends over several renowned climats of the Moulin-à-Vent appellation in Beaujolais. Éric Janin, fourth generation, currently manages this family estate in Romanèche-Thorins. The estate stands out for its unique terroir marked by the presence of manganese and its emblematic cuvée "Les Greneriers" from century-old vines. A pioneer in abandoning herbicides as early as 1995, it cultivates Gamay according to environmentally friendly practices.
The vineyard
L'Héritage comes from the lieux-dits Les Burdelines, Les Greneriers and Champ de Cour within the Moulin-à-Vent appellation. The vineyard rests on highly weathered granite soils and features vines predominantly aged between 80 and 100 years. Traditional low bush (gobelet) training and soil tillage with 3 to 4 ploughings without the use of herbicides achieve low yields of 22 hl/ha, ensuring concentration.
Vinification and aging
Manual harvesting into small crates. All grapes are sorted on a selection table in the winery. Whole-bunch fermentation lasts 12 to 15 days before pressing. Aging is carried out for 16 months in tanks on fine lees. Each parcel is vinified and aged separately, then blended after tasting just before bottling.
Grape variety
This 2023 Héritage from Domaine Paul Janin is 100% Gamay.
