Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2024 Famille Perrin

Tasting

Color
This white wine from France displays a bright color typical of its appellation.

Nose
Wonderfully expansive on the nose and beautifully elegant, the bouquet reveals notes of green fruit and citrus, harmoniously rounded out by touches of honey, pear and delicate floral aromas.

Palate
The palate stands out for its immediate approachability, freshness and finesse. It offers superb balance underpinned by lovely acidity, mineral tension and a sophisticated structure.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with guinea fowl and morels, a full-flavored cheese such as Époisses, or grilled turbot with almonds. More broadly, it will be an ideal match for white meats in creamy mushroom sauces as well as delicate fish dishes.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2024 should be served at 10°C in tasting glasses. Although approachable in its youth, this vintage has excellent aging potential and should continue to evolve favorably through around 2029.

The elegance and complexity of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape white wine

The estate

Founded in 1909 when Pierre Tramier acquired the estate, Famille Perrin is an emblematic name in France's Rhône Valley. Now led by the fifth generation, represented by Jean-Pierre and François Perrin along with their children Marc, Pierre, Thomas and Cécile, the estate stands out for its pioneering approach. The domaine adopted organic farming as early as 1950, followed by biodynamics in 1974. With a vineyard spanning several hundred hectares, the family continues to uphold expertise rooted in absolute respect for the terroir.

The vineyard

The grapes for this cuvée come from the Clos de Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a specific plot of two and a half hectares. This exceptional terroir is composed of Alpine alluvial deposits, famous rolled pebbles and a clay subsoil. This unique geology allows the soil to store heat while retaining water reserves, offering ideal conditions for growing vines in this region.

The vintage

The year was marked by notable climatic challenges, including strong mildew pressure and episodes of coulure, resulting in the lowest yields since 2018. Despite these demanding conditions requiring rigorous work, the harvest period stretched over two months, from August 2 to October 3. This extended window made it possible to pick each plot at optimal ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

As soon as they arrive at the winery, the grapes for this Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2024 are immediately pressed using a pneumatic press. The must is then cold-settled through cold static settling, with no initial addition of yeast. Each grape variety is vinified separately. Fermentation begins in tanks before the must is transferred to half-muid barrels. The aging process is marked by regular lees stirring, an essential technique for adding roundness, preserving texture and developing structural complexity.

Grape varieties

This wine is a blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne.
