Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Condrieu "La Loye" 2024
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue enhanced by golden highlights, offering beautiful luminosity and great transparency.
Nose
Wonderfully complex, the nose exudes intense stone fruit aromas such as apricot and white peach. It then opens onto floral notes reminiscent of orange blossom and spring flowers, complemented by subtle touches of honey, lemon zest, hazelnut and a delicate buttery dimension.
Palate
Round and generous, the palate seduces with its fruity breadth and unctuous texture, perfectly balanced by a lovely mineral freshness. The mid-palate reveals flavours of ripe summer fruits combined with notes of brioche and subtle vanilla. The finish, remarkably persistent, ends on an elegant freshness with a delicate hint of vanilla.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with green asparagus risotto, scallops, ravioli, as well as poultry or white fish. It also enhances dishes seasoned with saffron or turmeric, foie gras, aged cheeses such as Parmesan, or chocolate and caramel desserts.
Service and storage
For optimal enjoyment of Condrieu "La Loye" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 13°C, after opening it an hour in advance or lightly decanting it. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2028.
The authentic expression of Viognier by Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin in the Rhône Valley
The estate
Founded in 1983 by Jean-Michel Gérin, the eponymous estate is an unmissable name in the Rhône Valley. Originally from a family of winegrowers, the estate marked a turning point by vinifying its own harvests. Today, it is his sons, Michaël and Alexis Gérin, who run the estate with passion. The vineyard spans approximately 19 hectares, of which 17 are under the Côte-Rôtie appellation and 2 under Condrieu. Committed to an environmentally responsible approach, the estate has been certified organic since the 2023 vintage, reflecting its dedication to the pure expression of its steep terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this cuvée come from two plots located south of the town of Condrieu. The vines, over 25 years old, are planted on south and southeast-facing terraces, on soils composed of decomposed granite. Planting density is high, reaching 10,000 vines per hectare. The vineyard is farmed according to organic principles, with hand-harvesting carried out in small crates.
Winemaking and aging
After gentle pneumatic pressing, the vinification of Condrieu "La Loye" 2024 is split between stainless steel tanks and used oak barrels (two to five years old), accounting for 40 to 70% of the blend. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures. The wine is then aged for 12 months in barrels and demi-muids that have previously held several vintages, with regular lees stirring for the portion aged in wood, bringing complexity and unctuousness.
